Description

Bahraini people have held yet another sit-in outside the house of top Shia cleric Ayatollah Isa Qassim in protest against the government's move to revoke his citizenship. The sit-ins in front of Sheikh Qassim’s house have continued for 59 days. Participants in the latest rally chanted slogans in support of the top Shia cleric. They also called for the immediate release of all political prisoners. The sit-in in the village of Diraz comes a week after Manama arrested 12 Bahrainis for attending similar rallies. Manama stripped Sheikh Qassim of his citizenship last month. Bahrain has been the scene of a popular uprising since 20-11, with anti-government protesters demanding freedom and democracy. The demonstrations have been met with a fierce crackdown which has left many people dead.
