Finest Generation" is a long overdue tribute to anyone and everyone who has put on a uniform in the service of their country. With so many family and friends including both my parents being veterans, I wanted to honor all with an encompassing song. Playing off the concept of the WWII generation being considered our 'Greatest Generation,' I came up with the concept of grouping all veterans from all eras into the 'Finest Generation.' The lyrics encompass the stories of three semi-fictional veterans and their experiences: A WWII veteran, a Vietnam veteran, and an Iraq War veteran. The WWII and Vietnam veteran characters are male, while the Iraq War veteran is a female and single mom. Three very different experiences, yet all tied together by answering the call to duty, thereby becoming linked together in the Finest Generation. The accompanying YouTube video is a slideshow featuring veterans' images dating from WWI to a present day active duty soldier. The vast majority of images came from family and friends, and some from friends of friends. Michael Keating of Vietnam Veterans of America also guided me to a number of usable images from the NARA archives. There is nothing fancy about it, yet I still find it extremely moving. I hope that word of this song is widespread, so that all veterans and active duty soldiers get to hear it, and will know that I hold them all in the highest honor, esteem and regard.
