Description

A security forum was held in Seoul on Wednesday to discuss how South Korea should react by provocations or other aggressive action by North Korea. Kim Hyun-bin was there and filed this report. The South Korean government needs all the help it can get in dealing with its unpredictable northern neighbor. That′s why every month, academics and military experts gather for a security forum hosted by the Asia Pacific Policy Research Institute. The latest meeting came Wednesday. "The purpose of the foreign and trade policy forum is to analyze the internal and external environment of Northeast Asia, with special reference to the Korean Peninsula, and try to propose the policy suggestions and recommendations to our government." "In this latest forum, experts in each field focused on how to enhance both military and non-military strategies that would play a crucial role in the event of war." In addition to leading researchers, the forum welcomed Army ground warfare specialist Sung Yoon-hwan. The general says even though North Korea is much weaker economically and militarily compared to the South... the threat the communist regime poses is still great as it′s capable of attacking at any given moment. ""I believe that North Korea could use asymmetric tactics and unethical ways to threaten our country." Numerous aspects of wartime scenarios were also covered including how to minimize civilian casualties, the South Korean military′s defense against the North′s weapons of mass destruction, and the importance of security strategies in time of war.
