When you start thinking about some of the greatest horror films of all time, you are bound to have Steven Speilberg's Poltergeist at the top of your list of favorites. So, this news may make you very, very happy or even more scared than the original movie made you and that's because we will be seeing a new Poltergeist in theaters again pretty soon. But before many of you chalk this up to another bad remake, let me catch you up to speed on some of the details. Monster House director, Gil Kenan, will be helming this project alongside Sam Raimi who will be producing and we're not only getting some plot details thanks to Bloody Disgusting and Moviehole, but we're also learning it will in fact NOT be a remake perse but a sort of reboot/sequel hybrid similar to the Raimi produced Evil Dead movie that was released earlier this year. The story is supposed to take place in the same town as the previous 1982 classic, but many many years after the Freeling family have left. There will be new tenants called the Bowen family, who have relocated to the town to start over fresh after the father, Eric, lost his job. The Bowen daughter, Madison, will be abducted, and mama Bowen Amy will have the ability to communicate with the dead. MovieHole is reporting that the family will also find some of the Freeling's previous possessions that were intentionally left behind including some Star Wars bed sheets, a black and white TV Set and some old Christmas decorations, and we imagine that the rest will be history. There will be several new characters introduced, but we may likely see a few nods to the original film like that freaky looking clown that is on the rocking chair and that big spooky looking tree in the front yard, and of course we would expect the little girl to make BFF's again with The Lost People. So, its kinda a reboot and kinda a sequel, which could allow for some of the original stars to reprise their roles. So, now that you know all of this info, what do you think about Hollywood giving us a new Poltergeist? Do you think it could have the success as Raimi's Evil Dead? What are some of the plot details from the original do you hope make a cameo this time around?
