Description

On the day President Obama said at a White House briefing (also included in this clip) that his comments that Cambridge cops "acted stupidly" in arresting Professor Henry Louis Gates "could have [been] calibrated differently," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs appears on "Countdown" and tells Richard Wolffe (substituting for host Keith Olbermann) that Obama "wanted to make sure everyone knew the full context and understood what he was trying to say on Wednesday." Gibbs said that since Obama felt his comments contributed to the controversy, he felt this was "a situation he felt he needed to step into." Gibbs also thinks that Rush Limbaugh does not contribute to a "constructive dialogue" on race, and that he "is paid a lot of money to fan the flames... Very few of our issue are going to be solved yelling at each other on talk radio."
