Description

Dover and Calais are the busiest roll-on roll-off ferry terminals in Europe, a unique maritime bridge across one of the busiest seaways in the world connecting the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom with the rest of mainland Europe. They are core ports on the EU’s TEN-T network, the only core network connection between the UK and continental Europe and the maritime part of the North Sea-Mediterranean corridor. In the last 20 years, Ro-Ro freight traffic volumes have more than doubled. Handling 130 billion euros worth of trade, 5 million vehicles and 13 million passengers at Dover with 75% going via Calais… these two ports are uniquely placed… to deliver for Europe. They have developed efficient complementary port facilities and hinterland connections. To respond to further market growth they have been working together to develop a common approach – the BRIDGE project. BRIDGE delivers a fully integrated multimodal logistics corridor combining road, rail and maritime transport. BRIDGE enhances the resilience of the corridor, improves operational efficiency by adapting berths to the highest technical standards, improves hinterland connections and delivers major capacity enhancements.
