Description

On her 2014 album “Southern Comfort,” jazz violinist Regina Carter explores her paternal grandfather’s era through contemporary arrangements of American roots music. John Mark Rafacz of the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State speaks with Carter about her family history and her old-time music research. The Detroit native talks about the connection she feels to the American South, where her grandfather was an Alabama Coal miner. She also discusses the diverse line-up of songs she selected for the “Southern Comfort” CD and concert tour. An excerpt of the Hank Williams song “Honky Tonkin’,” arranged by Chris Lightcap, enhances the webcast. Music copyright 2014 Sony Music Entertainment. Visit http://cpa.psu.edu for more information.
