Description
Youth Voices Count (YVC) is a network of young men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgendered (TG) community leaders in Asia and the Pacific, which aims to support young community to address their HIV related health and human rights issues via capacity building, advocacy and community mobilization. Loud and Proud is an advocacy campaign in 4 countries covered by the network (Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Mongolia) on addressing self-stigma and breaking the linkages to HIV vulnerabilities, incorporated the showcase of an advocacy short video in which young people shared their own experiences of dealing with self-hatred as well as got love and support from their beloved people; and distribution of interpreted relevant YVC-developed documents (policy brief, consultation report, YVC one pager). The event attracted attention and participation of different stakeholders namely UN agencies, INGOs, local NGOs, LGBT and youth-serving groups, and a number of community people to express their support, commitment and contribution. The campaign aimed to raise awareness among interested partners on the issues along with tangible recommendations; at the same time, to promote self-acceptance, self-confidence and health-seeeking habits among young audience. The Loud and Proud event took place on May 18 2013 in Manila, Hanoi, Surabya and Ulaanbaatar.
