Description

First runner-up Carmel HS Ambassadors, Carmel, IN Luers-Midwest Swing Choir Invitational Finals competition. [homemade video] The six-time Grand Champion Ambassadors (1977, 78, 79, 80, 83, 85) returned to Luers in 1988 after a two-year absence. Backed by the phenomenal "Ambassador Brass," Carmel competed for the first time with a thematic show - a tribute to New York City. A seventh title was not to be, however, as Lafayette Jefferson First Edition would win the first of what was to become five titles of their own. In an ironic twist that echoed the bitterness of Marion HS's 26th Street Singers loss to Carmel in 1979, as of 2006, the Ambassadors have not competed again. [The customary profesionally-shot footage from Luers doesn't exist of the 1988 Ambassadors, as director Ron Hellems (reportedly tired of other directors copying his choir's arrangements and choreography) refused to sign the release agreement required by the production company.]
