By Delaney Susie... Hi, my name is Delaney Susie and I’m hacking the ice bucket challenge. I was challenged by my best friend since middle school & overall inspiring individual Sha Grogan-Brown. The Ice Bucket Challenge raised so much $ and awareness for ALS, a neurological condition that deserves a cure. Now I am joining others to take a stand and fundraise to help cure the social disease of racism & police brutality, which the recent events on Ferguson have made visible. Like others I was saddened by killing of Mike Brown, frustrated by the medias anti-black discourse and appalled by the military-style force against protesters. I also realize that as a white person in our society I have the luxury of ignoring these problems if I want – I can choose to go to them rather them coming to me. Because of this I feel I have the responsibility with other white people to talk about the systemic injustices that people of color face. I hope that when my son grows up racism/white supremacy are concepts from history books and not from current events. I have made a donation to the Organization for Black Struggle in Ferguson, MO, which has been organizing for 30 years towards freedom & rights for black people & all people. I am challenge YOU to donate and do the Ice Bucket Hack as well as I am calling on 3 people who I know are allies in this struggle... Sarah Packer, friend for 17 years, Sarah Simmons, the midwife who ushered in my sons life and protects others lives with her activism, and my dad Robert Gersten. Alternately they decline the ice bucket hack and donate $100 to OBS. You can learn more about the Organization for Black Struggle at their website, www.obs-onthemove.org I hope this cold water is a shock to the system, mine and yours, to wake us up to racism in the United States. ‪#‎IceBucketChallenge‬, ‪#‎IceBucketHack‬, ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬
