Products Used : http://goo.gl/6qiDw For the final installment of our three-part bike refresh series, we're back in the CC Powersports garage putting the finishing touches on our newly updated 2001 Suzuki DRZ400. We started things off by dropping in new steering stem bearings, and then made everything look pretty again with new plastics and graphics. All that's left is to replace our sturdy thumper's ripped seat cover and mount up new grips and handguards. First up was the seat cover. Replacing a dirt bike seat cover is actually super simple. You just need a sturdy shop stapler and a few minutes. After pulling off the old cover (remember to remove all of the old staples), we began stretching our new Factory Effex All Gripper cover over the stock seat foam and pan. Sometimes it's a good idea to heat the new seat cover with a hair dryer to make it more pliable just prior to installing. It will retract and tighten up nicely once mounted. We like to recommend you line up the new cover on the seat pan then slowly continue stretching and stapling from the center out. The whole job should take no more than 20-30 minutes. Once mounted, our new Factory Effex seat cover looked great, making the entire bike look cleaner and factory-fresh. Moving on to the controls, we wanted to add some extra protection to our refreshed DRZ, so we enlisted the help of EMGO's Pro-Guard aluminum-reinforced handguards. While we were at it, we went ahead and slapped on some plush new Pro Grip 794 grips. Installation was as easy as expected, with the EMGO guards coming equipped with a variety of mounting hardware options to fit most any bar size or setup. To finish the job, we performed a quick lube of our control cables using Bike Master's Cable Luber. So how did our new and improved DR-Z look? Pretty frickin' fantastic, we must say. And the best part? The whole project only took a little bit of time and not a ton of money. It just goes to show that you don't always need a huge budget to make a used bike look new again.
