Description

118 bands from around the world entered the Cotai International Jazz and Blues Festival/Competition, held October 11-13 in Macao. Organizers came up with 12 Finalists, who were flown to Macao for the competition. The semi-finals narrowed down the list to five finalists, who competed on the 13th before a panel of international judges. Emerging as the winner was the Bleu Rascals from the Philippines, who returned home with a grand prize of HK$ 250,000. The Bleu Rascals was by far the youngest band in the competition, fronted by 20-year-old Paul Marney Leobrera on guitar/vocals, with backing from Oliver Salaysay, bass, and John Jay Garcia, drums, both in their early 20's. Despite their young age, they already have an impressive list of credits, including the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, opening for Buddy Guy and Keb Mo at Timbre Rock & Roots in Singapore and headlining at the Jakarta International Blues Festival, all in 2012, plus the Japan Blues Festival and Cotai in 2013.
