In the latest episode of our video series Lightbox, Canadian director Janet Perlman discusses her latest film with the National Film Board of Canada, 'Monsieur Pug', which premieres at the Ottawa International Animation Festival this Friday, September 19th. Perlman's long history with the NFB spans nearly 40 years, going back to 1976 with her first film 'Lady Fishbourne's Complete Guide to Table Manners'. Other work includes the Oscar-nominated 'Tender Tale of Cinderella Penguin', numerous commissions for PBS, several films as part of the NFB's Showpeace series and a recent contribution to Jeff Chiba Sterns's 'Yellow Sticky Notes: Canadian AniJam' project. Her latest film 'Monsieur Pug' features the titular addled canine making his case for a better world without mobile phones, animated in ToonBoom Harmony using a mixed-media approach.
