Watch the full recording here https://www.onlinevents.co.uk/online-training-for-counsellors-ltd/ Jo has developed and provided online services to young people, students and adults - despite describing herself as 'tech challenged'. She has navigated through the web and encourages other counsellors to do likewise. She has provided informative workshops at conferences (e.g. BACP) to show how counselling services can extend their reach and increase accessibility. Jo will be talking with John about the challenges of setting up an online counselling service and discussing the role ACTO can play in promoting and supporting online counselling and the people who work in this field. When she is not working online, Jo is an avid World of Warcraft player (an immersive global online game) which she misses playing regularly, due to the need to concentrate on her doctoral studies (DPsych) at the Metanoia Institute. Jo Ames is an accredited member of BACP; current Chair of the Association for Counselling & Therapy Online (ACTO); the Online Counselling Lead at the University of Birmingham Counselling Service and is one of the co-authors of the recently published "Short-Term Counselling in Higher Education. Context, Theory and Practice" Routledge, (2016). With counselling experience in the youth voluntary sector, Child and Adolescent Metal Health (CAMHS) and within two West Midlands universities, Jo embarked on training in online counselling in 2002 and has weaved this approach into her work. She can be reached by email at: jo.ames8@hotmail.co.uk.
