Description

John Casterline couldn't wait to retire. He was looking forward to a whole new adventure. But he had no idea that everything was about to change. One week after retiring, John was told that he had stage 4 lung cancer. After researching various cancer treatment centers, John decided to receive his treatment at the UF Health Cancer Center -- Orlando Health. The doctors were inspired by his determination, but they knew his prognosis was not good. But John refused to give up. Every day after treatment, he went for a walk to keep his body active. And those walks gave him an idea. He would hike the Pacific Crest — 2,600 miles from Mexico to Canada — to raise money and create awareness. But before he could start, lightning struck again. John was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Then, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. John fought three separate battles against three different cancers and was still determined to hike the trail. And that's just what he did. At the age of 70 after fighting three different battles with cancer, John takes nothing for granted. His strength of character, compassion for others and can-do attitude prove that, no matter what you face, there is always hope.
