On April 20, 2010, British Petroleum aka BP, had one of their oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico explode. The Deepwater Horizon oil disaster (also referred to as the BP oil spill, the BP oil disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and the Macondo blowout). There was a mechanical failure on the oil platform and BP was not prepared to "cap" off the oil. Finally, on July 15, 2010, the oil was "capped" off. BP used the chemical Corexit to disperse the oil after the mechanical failure on their oil platform caused an explosion resulting in the worse man made environmental disaster the . BP did not disclose the side effects the chemical Corexit has on humans. BP used planes to spray Corexit in the Gulf of Mexico in an effort to disperse the oil. BP hired people to assist with the cleanup. The workers BP hired to help cleanup the oil were exposed to the chemical Corexit. BP failed to disclose the side effects Corexit has on humans. As a result of BP failing to disclose this information about the chemical Corexit, the workers exposed to the chemical Corexit are getting sick,dying and some have already died. When using the chemical Corexit, protective gear is supposed to the worn. BP did not want the workers using the chemical Corexit to wear the protective gear because they were afraid of the negative publicity the protective gear would attract. Now ranked as largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history, the BP spill resulted from the April 20,2010 Deepwater Horizon Drilling rig explosion. Hundreds of millions of gallons of oil were spilled into the Gulf of Mexico and it continues to damage marine and wildlife habitats, along with the Gulf's fishing and tourism industry. As a result BP not disclosing the side effects the chemical Corexit BP used to cleanup the oil spill if protective gear is not worn, the workers they hired are getting sick, dying and some people have died. A letter was written to United States Senator Mary Landrieu; however, she did not respond to the letter. It was a short letter asking what she is doing to help the people who are getting sick, dying and the family members of the people who have died.
