Description

Our submission for SXSW Eco 2016: Hi guys! I’m Jayde and I’m a science communicator. And I’m Bec and I’m a video producer. The presentation were pitching for SXSW Eco is called Storytelling to Fight Climate Change. We both have a backgrounds in traditional advertising and we saw an opportunity to take what we had learned working with global brands and apply it to helping evidence-based organizations encourage climate action. From oil and gas companies, to agriculture and manufacturing industries–these groups poses an increasing threat to climate progress. Theyre expert at manipulating decision makers and the public with powerful communications that use tactical, emotive and highly effective storytelling. This session will show scientists, conservationists, and the organizations who represent them how to craft story-based communications that stand up against misinformation and positively persuade the public. There will be four key takeaways from our presentation: The classic narrative structure of 'The Hero's Journey' - which helps define mission and backstory. the 'And, But and Therefore' storytelling template - which helps to structure that mission in the most engaging way demonstrate the influence different kinds of emotion has on messaging (ie. which emotions are most relatable & shareable) And help practitioners come up with ways they can use these storytelling strategies in communications to fight climate change. So please vote for us. We'd love to share our with you - hope to see you at sxsw Eco!
