Description

The unofficial mascot of Staunton State Park - our yellow-bellied marmots! Usually found at higher altitudes, we are fortunate to have a colony living in the park. A species of ground squirrel, they hibernate during the winter. Every year Staunton State Park celebrates its marmots with an Annual Marmot Fest! Happening the weekend of June 25-26, 2016, it's a day of guided hikes, introductory rock climbing, kids activities, and an opportunity to adopt a stuffed marmot of your own to help support the efforts of the Friends of Staunton State Park, a nonprofit organization devoted to Preserve, Promote, and Protect Staunton State Park. We hope you'll join us! Learn more at friendsofstauntonstatepark.org or find us on Facebook! Video by Wayne Parkinson, edited by Sharon Trilk, My Mountain Town All Rights Reserved
