Sinnott When I started off in the music industry – back in the Sixties, we lived and made our success in a physical analog world – where vinyl was king. Now, after many years, and the advent of the all powerful internet and digital technology, there have been huge changes in the way the music industry now operates. Yet, for all those changes one of the most critical and fundamental to success, remains the same: Marketing and promotion. Yes, of course, the approach and methods have changed, but the rules are still the same. No matter how good your product is - without effective marketing and promotion, you're dead in the water. Whatever your passion in music - knowledge of how you market and promote your product is as critical now as its ever been. It applies to all you producers, managers, publishers, record labels and entrepreneurs. If, creators of fine works put as much time into marketing and promoting their product as they do in creating it - they would be much better off. I have lots of people tell me they simply don't have time to market and promote their own product. My answer is simple: make time. You're running a business - to make money. Unless you have thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars to hire people to market and promote for you - start doing it yourself. A lot of the most successful producers, artists and songwriters - have done, and are doing, just that. They made it their business to find out how and where money is made in the industry- and many I know became successful because of it. In the next few days – I’m going to be talking about your music - and how you can make it work for you – from songwriting, publishing, production, releasing your own records, negotiating your own deals, both at home and in the global marketplace, and lots more. Start taking control of your music, and make this a great year! Your friend and mentor, Dennis R. Sinnott www.dennissinnott.com www.musicdomination.com
