Description

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Sometimes we are ashamed from the places we come from. In this hauntingly beautiful story, writer Patrick York, shares why we should not be ashamed and instead we should be where we are from. Patrick Garrett York is from the Mojave Desert. He received his MFA from the University of California, Riverside where he was a Gluck Fellow of the Arts. He lives in Los Gatos, California with his wife, Kendall. As a contributing writer to the Journal of Emergency Medical Services, York writes a monthly article for both print and web publications, researching EMS-related stories, conducting interviews, and matching the style and slant of the magazine. As an MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts, a teacher of screenwriting and playwriting, and a freelance script consultant, he has helped many people write the stories they want to write. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
