Description

A segment from the Australian music interview TV series The Meldrum Tapes, of which 24 episodes aired on the ABC in 1986. The Meldrum Tapes featured full length interviews that Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator, Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, conducted over his many overseas trips during the Countdown years, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. Where Countdown would feature a small part of the interview (constrained due to time), The Meldrum Tapes aired the interviews in full. This clip features an interview of Australian band The Models, featuring band members Sean Kelly and James Freud, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum. The interview begins with a discussion about The Models initial line-up. They proceed to discuss recording their first album, and their original live performances. They then proceed to discuss James Freud's joining of the band, and what followed after that. They also discuss The Models' preference to playing specifically to their fans, as opposed to a wider audience. They also discuss their single 'I Hear Motion' being a breakthrough for the band, and the recording of that album, 'The Pleasure Of Your Company'. The interview is concluded with a discussion of Sean and James sharing the lead vocals of the band, and the stability of the band. Vaxfacts: James Freud's battles with alcohol addiction were covered in both of his autobiographies, and plagued him for much of his life- he eventually committed suicide on November 4, 2010.
