Description

This Touch Surgery surgical simulation video demonstrates how to perform a laparoscopic appendectomy procedure. To try the simulation for yourself, download the Touch Surgery app for free on your smartphone or tablet. Laparoscopic appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix via a minimally invasive technique. The use of laparoscopic surgery in the management of acute appendicitis (AA) was first described in 1983, with a continued increasing trend in its use. The literature describes decreased pain, earlier resumption of diet, and a decreased length of hospital stay. This surgical simulation was authored by Dr. Rafael J. Grossmann MD, FACS, an Attending Surgeon at Eastern Maine Medical Center. His interests lie in general and acute care and trauma, and advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He was the first surgeon to use Google Glass in an operating theatre and is a passionate advocate for the potential of wearable technology in medical environments. He is a keen healthcare futurist and has sparked many conversations, for example, his TED talk: ‘OK Glass, I Need a Surgeon.’ To read more about the Laparoscopic Appendectomy surgical simulation, visit the operations page: https://www.touchsurgery.com/operations/laparoscopic-appendectomy/ For more information about Touch Surgery, visit us on: Web: http://www.touchsurgery.com Facebook: http://facebook.com/touchsurgery Twitter: http://twitter.com/touchsurgery Instagram: http://instagram.com/touchsurgery Music credit: Nightrider (Original Mix) - Booma
