Description

Audio from a June 4, 2000 show, Copenhagen, Denmark at a venue called Loppen, part of a short, mostly Scandinavian, European tour Mazzy Star played. One of my favourite Mazzy Star shows. This turned out to be the last tour until 2012, a long hiatus. Setlist: *01 Leaving on a Train *02 Blues (possibly a.k.a. Does Someone) 03 I'm Gonna Bake My Biscuit (Memphis Minnie cover) 04 Ride It On 05 I've Been Let Down 06 Bells Ring 07 Rhymes of an Hour 08 Unreflected *09 Sparrow *10 That Way Again 11 Look on Down From the Bridge *12 Plain Gold Ring *13 When You Were Young *14 It Speaks of Distance *Songs with asterisks are unreleased ones, most of which I've not yet heard in any other recorded versions ('When You Were Young", & "Leaving on a Train" I've uploaded to YT in other live versions). This is one of my fave Mazzy Star shows as it has just about everything going for it. The band plays 7 unreleased songs here, a gold mine of rarities. It's an audience tape, but the audio quality's very good. Thankfully, the Copenhagen audience, though in a place where drinks are served (a bit of clinking of bottles can be heard), is mostly attentive & listening respectfully instead of yacking rudely as too often happens at Mazzy Star shows in certain other cities & countries in the world. The band does a bunch of quiet, acoustic songs here which would have been badly marred by chattering audiences had Mazzy Star instead played clubs in cities x,y,or z in country "A", for instance. To top it off, I don't recall ever hearing a better vocal performance from Hope. I've previously uploaded to YT this whole show, but as individual songs. The audio quality should be improved in this new upload though, with a higher bit rate, as it was uploaded to YT as a lossless WAV file, not in lossy MP3. Song trivia: - "It Speaks of Distance" contains the mysterious line "Among my swan", suggesting it may have been slated to be included on the 1996 album of that name, but ended up being left off. - "Plain Gold Ring" is a cover, & is best known as a 1950s song sung by Nina Simone. - "I'm Gonna Bake My Biscuit" is a cover of a song recorded by Memphis Minnie 1929 or 1930. Mazzy Star released a studio version as a B-side on the single "Fade Into You", 1994. Those interested in lyrics to the unreleased songs might check the video descriptions at my prior uploads of each individual song. Attempted lyrics transcriptions are found there. I maintain an extensive Mazzy Star, Hope, & related boots list with ownloadL links in this fan site forum: http://forums.mazzystar.tk/ in the section "Bootleg List" under my site name there "Hermesacat". Unfortunately, a few ISPs block domain names with the .tk suffix, but as far as I know most don't.
