On Saturday, around 4:30 pm, Ong Ai Sam was running next to her daughter, several metres behind her husband and a friend when two men on a motorcycle approached them. The men were wearing full-face helmets and were armed with knives. They demanded the woman's sling bag, police said. After starting a scuffle with the robbers, Ong pushed her daughter away and shouted to her to run for help, police said. When the daughter came back to the scene she found her mother lying on the ground, in a pool of blood. According to police, the mother was stabbed several times in the chest and thighs. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi Mohamed said that Ong's lungs were also punctured, The Star reported. The robbers escaped empty-handed. Ong, who used to work as a teacher at a primary school in Taman Megah, was pronounced dead upon arrival at University Malaya Medical Centre several minutes later. Police are investigating the case as murder and are collecting CCTV footage from houses nearby the scene of the crime, the Star reported.
