Description

Songs by great 90's punk bands put alongside Green Day songs. After viewing this video, you will see how Green Day fits in very well with their fellow punk bands. This is in terms of everything from songwriting to musical structure. I believe the band deserves to be accepted as the greatest punk rock act of the 90s without a doubt. ALL RIGHTS TO RESPECTIVE ARTISTS I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THIS CONTENT If the Muffs, the Queers, the Ramones, and Rancid are considered punk rock, why isn't Green Day? This video illustrates the band's sound in comparison to the many punk revival bands that made up the 1990s punk scene in which Green Day was very much a part of. Some will agree. Some will deny - just because they don't know anything yet. After American Idiot (2004), the band was revived and began playing stadiums and arenas again after a long time. Earlier in their career as a band they played at venues just as large however began to decline in popularity as the century ended. Green Day returned in 2004 looking like a completely new band and their earlier albums, achievements, and even some fans were forgotten. They were a band reborn alongside acts like Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Blink-182, and Sum-41 and many people have mistaken them to be of that era of music. The band got rid of the snot-nose punk sound, wearing baseball jerseys, dying their hair, and spitting at the crowd. With the coming of age, they had grown to be more mature and appreciative of their statuses. Surprisingly, bands around them in this new era who claimed to be 'punk rock' had very similar conservative attitudes in contrast to the bands of the 1990s. This lead to many people and punk purists alike to categorize Green Day as a 'new band' with the likes of Simple Plan and the All-American Rejects due to their similarities in attitude and sound in contrast to 'true' punk which were often the Ramones, the Pistols, Rancid, and any act pre-2000's - according to them! The world had forgotten about Green Day for they had not been a very large band since the mid-1990s where more and more people had sprung out of nowhere and had never heard about the band before. Green Day had released 6 albums before American Idiot but this didn't seem to matter after the album was released. From the album came singles like 'Boulevard of Broken Dream's and 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' which became instant hits considering the fact that they were ballads and were listened to by the most mainstream of mainstream-goers. Green Day became to be known for ONLY these hits for a while and these hits were the only songs the punk communities could base their comments on for they and many others, did not know the Green Day before American Idiot. Green Day released 39/Smooth, Kerplunk!, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning the previous decade. Aside from not wearing make-up, skinny jeans, dying their hair black, wearing black clothes, attending big-time cocktail parties, and going on Broadway, the band was categorized well along fellow punk bands Rancid, the Offspring, NOFX, Operation Ivy, Screeching Weasel, the Muffs, the Queers, the Misfits, the Ramones, Pennywise, the Clash, Lagwagon, Less than Jake, the Bouncing Souls, Dropkick Murphys, and more. What people fail to realize is that to this very day, the band still continues to compose songs that have the original punk rock and Rock N' Roll feel that the early punk rock bands used to have unlike most of today's punk bands do (ex. Sum-41, Blink-182, New Found Glory etc.) who stick to a more modern sound with sometimes unnecessary orchestral pieces and techno inserted into their songs (added by the huge number of cheesy acoustic love songs they produce - note that Green Day has VERY few acoustic sets). With such massive hits like '21 Guns' which is the only song of it's kind (a ballad) in the entire album, people and punks judge the band very quickly. However, with the punk sound aside, it is also hard for pe...
