From a poor, uneducated background in the coal mining hills of Kentucky, married at 13 and a mother at 14, Loretta Lynn would go on to become one of country's greatest, and most original singer/songwriter. With her $17.00 Harmony guitar, she taught herself to play at 21 and by the age of 24 she started singing at the Delta Grange Hall in Washington State with the Pen Brothers' band, The Westerners. Despite her tumultuous relationship with her husband, Lynn cut her first record in February 1960, establishing a bold name in the the country music scene in Nashville and by 1967 charted her first of 16 number-one hits.
