Description

MONETA, VIRGINIA — The man believed to have shot and killed two journalists during a live broadcast in Virginia was located after a State trooper used a license plate reader to track him down. Virginia State Trooper Pamela Neff spotted Vester Lee Flanagan's vehicle on Interstate 66 at approximately 11:20 a.m. with the aid license plate reader, Fox News reported. "As soon as it was entered, it came up with a positive hit that that vehicle just passed me less than three minutes earlier," Fox News quoted Neff as saying. "I let my dispatch know that the vehicle has passed me and I attempted to catch up with the vehicle, which was travelling eastbound on 66." Flanagan's vehicle ran off the road and crashed after a car chase. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound later at a hospital. The Automatic License Plate Recognition system uses cameras mounted to several points on a police car. The cameras are connected to an in-car processer and to a laptop in the police car, according to IEEE Spectrum, an electrical engineering journal. The cameras automatically read licence plates numbers on passing cars. A database then queries the numbers. If the license plate is located, the system alerts the officer with an alarm and an on-screen notification, IEEE Spectrum reported. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
