Description

In 2002, I was asked to write a song for NASA. Cable In The Classroom was going to do a show involving the astronauts in the International Space Station. To gain inspiration for the song, the folks at NASA invited me out to Kennedy Space Center to watch a launch up close. It was an amazing experience. At the time, I was writing quite a bit with Ilya Toshinskiy, lead guitarist and producer for the Grammy nominated Russian Country group, Bering Strait. I thought, who better to write this song with. I told Ilya what I was looking to do and he just started playing. Within an hour I came up with the lyrics for this song. Unfortunately, in early 2003, Space Shuttle Columbia broke apart upon reentry, killing all on board. A few years later, in 2005, I was honored to perform the song at an AmeriCorps conference in Washington, DC. We pitched the song to Lance Bass as he attempted to to visit the Space Station. The song was presented through the Russian embassy and was slated to be the theme song for the event. But Lance's effort never got off the ground. Because of the "Pop" pitch, we got a "Pop" demo singer to perform on the track. It would truly be the perfect song to wake, entertain and inspire the astronaughts aboard the final flight of our Space Shuttle. I hope you enjoy this song. Thanks for listening. Jack Kapanka
