Description

Shane: Hello! I'm here with Howard, because we have an exciting announcement for everyone. Howard: That's right, Shane. It's about the NAD and ... Shane: RID will ... Together: partner! Shane: ... together on a joint conference. This is really an exciting time. Howard: Right! Shane: The Region II Board representative for RID, Joshua Pennise, said it best: "The Region II Conference IS the NAD Conference." We're partnering with NAD now. During the week of NAD conference, we'll be celebrating RID's 50 year anniversary - what a special time for all of us. Howard will share a few details about what's happening during the week. Howard: NADthat week will be really exciting. That's the week from July 1 through 5th in Atlanta, Georgia. On July 1, we'll have the opening ceremony, so come and join us for the fun. During the week, we'll have a number of workshops - Shane will explain more about the interpreter workshops. On July 2, we'll have a community forum. This will be led by two women: Janice Cole, and Juniper Sussman. They're both interpreters, one deaf, one hearing. Great ladies, they'll be leading the forum, so that'll be awesome. They'll cover things like interpreter issues, deaf issues, hearing/deaf issues, whatever comes up - it'll be a free-for-all discussion. On July 3 will have the college bowl competition - that's always exciting. So, come and see that! July 4th - more details on that later, but there will be an exciting celebration together with RID. On July 5th, there will be an ASL festival from the Georgia Association for the Deaf, then in the evening there will be the Youth Ambassador Program and Competition. Now, for more details on July 4th, back to Shane. Shane: July 4th will be special because we will get together to celebrate RID's birthday. RID was founded by both the deaf community and interpreters, working together. And now we'll meet again, celebrating 50 years later, celebrating RID. This is a very exciting time. We'll have a number of activities, including fireworks, which we can watch from the rooftop of the hotel, we'll have food served, dancing, music, performances. We'll have a great time together. One other thing I want to share - the workshops that Howard talked about: RID will offer workshops during the NAD conference. This interpreter track will belong to RID. All of the workshops within this track will have CEUs. So, grab the opportunity to go to the workshops, and get your CEUs. Another thing - RID will also have our business meetings during the conference. This is our opportunity to discuss important issues, and to make motions for the national RID conference next year. During the NAD Conference week, we'll also have forum - this is when RID members will have a chance to get together and discuss issues. We also welcome the deaf community to join us and participate. We'll talk about important issues within the interpreter community, and discuss ways to help the interpreting profession advance into the future. So, please come and join us during this important week with business meetings and forums. Both: Come! Join us in Atlanta!
