Description

The Accordion Invasion started with a short concert at The Betsy Hotel. About 80 people, with the accordion players in the lead then paraded along the sands of Miami Beach, took a left at Lincoln Road and walked down to the Art Center/South Florida for a second and longer concert lead by Shlomo Geva. In this clip, Eddie Schriber on violin and David Gordon on accordion perform Oczy czame. Thank you Jenni Person and Next@19th. Oczy czarne (Black Eyes), so masterfully performed here by Eddie Schriber and accompanied by David Gordon was composed by Artur Gold (born March 17, 1897, Warsaw, died 1943 in Treblinka) was a Polish Jewish violinist and dance-music composer. Artur Gold lived in German-ordered ghetto in Warsaw, in which he played with an orchestra. He was deported by Germans from the Umschlagplatz to the German Treblinka extermination camp where he played for the Nazis in their casino and, at least on one occasion, dressed as a clown. He was murdered in 1943 in Treblinka. According to recollections of some of the Treblinka survivors Gold might have been killed during the uprising at Treblinka which occurred on August 2, 1943.
