Joachim Loew Wants Win No Matter How It Comes

Description

Germany scrapped past Scotland but coach Joachim Loew is not worried that his boys had to work hard for it. Also see how Roy Hodgson's England is preparing for their tough clash against an improved Switzerland. Germany had to sweat it out against Scotland in the Euro 2016 qualifiers but for coach Joachim Loew, a win is all that matters. BYTE-First of all, I am completely satisified that we won the three points. That was my only expectation today. I only wanted to win this game and start off qualification well. It was clear that this would be a difficult game, that the Scots have nothing to lose and would play defensively. But for the Scotland coach Gordon Strachan it was a missed opportunity to beat the World Champions. BYTE-At 1-1 I genuinely believed that we can win the game at that point. I've seen players at that point playing with no fear of the game. The first 20 minutes, it wasn't fear. What we were trying to do in the first 20 minutes was ask the players to try and look out for passes and they were trying to rush these passes, they lost the ball quite a lot and it gave Germany easy possessions which allowed their system to become more positive than our system, so we had to adjust after 20 minutes. From there we settled down a bit. In the second half we played with no fear and as I said at 1-1 I genuinely believed we were going to win the game. Moving on, a new-look England team has their work cut-out against Switzerland. But coach Roy Hodgson is confident of a good show. BYTE-I think it is foolish to start saying the only good result will be this that or the other. For me it is about performance as well at the moment. You said this would be a big test for them, and yes it is. I want to see how they come up to speed on that test, what is my judgement going to be afterwards.. How well is the team going to play, are we going to play well and be unlucky and not get the result we want. Or play poorly and get a result which everyone says is satisfactory. BUt for me I am looking beyond that anyway. I have got to look at both things. I want the result and if you asked me what would you prefer, play badly and win or play well and lose, I would play badly and win I am not different to anybody else in that respect. Hodgson believes that an injury to Daniel Sturridge, although unfortunate, won't matter much. BYTE-Well I think the fact we are pleased with our options is shown by the fact we haven't taken anybody in to replace Daniel Sturridge. We think the players we have here can counter then loss of one of our more important players. We are devastated for him as well. He was so anxious to play in this game when he had to limp off the training session, or out of the training session, it was very hard for him. But no we are ready and it is just a question now of seeing what happens tomorrow evening. The last time these two teams met in Euro 2010, England prevailed 3-1. But captain Wayne Rooney knows that things have changed a lot. BYTE Four years ago was a long time ago. It is a completely different team then to what it is now. And Obviously you have to look to the future and to the game tomorrow night. Not looking back. Obviously it was a good result and I felt a very good performance four years ago. But we are focused on tomorrow and that game is irrelevant to tomorrow night's game.
