From his first audition Jay caused widespread International attention & interest with his unique voice & background. During the show Simon Cowell described Jay as ‘Incredible' & a ‘genius’ with great renditions of ’Say Something’ (Great Big World), '500 Miles' (Proclaimers) and ‘Changing' (Sigma) amongst others. The music mogul also admitted on completion of the competition that Jay was in fact his predicted winner. The bookies also had Jay odds on favourite to win the competition up until his shock exit in week 6. Hot off finishing the X Factor Live Tour, playing to over 300,000 people across the biggest arenas and venues in the UK & Ireland. Jay has this year already been voted 10th in HeatWorld’s / Heat Magazine’s Top 100 Hottest Hunks of 2015, sung to an electric crowd of 81,000 people at Twickenham Stadium and been asked to be a brand ambassador for prestige car company, Mercedes. As well as many exciting things lined up, Jay is focused on his own original music as well as writing & producing for other established artists. Jay James is a former Royal Navy fitness Instructor from Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire in South West Wales. After serving 9 years Jay was badly injured playing Rugby and whilst on sick leave decided to learn and play a guitar he had bought 3 months previous as a ‘drunken bet’.   Despite having no previous background in music, Jay quickly discovered his new found love for it, using his early education in music as distraction away from ‘the depressions & frustrations of an injury’. With that, Jay self taught, developed his talents for expressing himself in music & songwriting in a lonely rented room in a mates flat in Portsmouth.  After a period of time of 'working the circuit’ Jay found a break by topping an internet chart (indie Store) for a period of 6 weeks, then after gaining National press attention, Jay was placed on the Royal Navy Role Model Scheme and awarded a 'Career break’ to pursue his musical talents. Jay became the first ever musician/artist to be awarded this by the Royal Navy and less than 6 months later he was scouted & signed by DECCA Records, Universal. After collaborating and working with some of the biggest writers & producers in the Music World and after a 2 year period of focussed writing and recording between London, New York & LA, Jay released his ‘critically acclaimed’ debut album 'Play It By Heart’ in the Summer of 2012 with debut single ‘Long may they Roll’ hitting the No2 spot in the Radio 1 RnB charts. The album features collaborations with the likes of John Legend, The Roots crew James Poyser & super producer Malay (Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Angel Haze). That same year, he wrote & featured on the song "Fly" by Cinematic, released on Black Butter Records (home to Rudimental, Gorgon City and Clean Bandit) it was described by Radio 1’s Annie Mac & Trevor Nelson as a 'Summer Anthem’. After meeting & working with Booker T. Jones on his UK debut, Jay developed a mentor relationship with the Grammy Lifetime Award Achiever and In the Summer of 2013, Jay was invited by Booker to feature on his largely anticipated Stax Records return with Album 'Sound The Alarm’ featuring other artists Anthony Hamilton, Mayer Hawthorne & Estelle. Their song 'Broken Heart' became Bookers biggest radio hit since 'Green Onions', sitting at Number 1 on BB...
