Description

A look at the process behind the development of King Arthur and His Knights, featuring Niall McNeill and Marcus Youssef and footage from a 2014 workshop at the Down Syndrome Research Foundation with Marcus Youssef, Veda Hille and James Long. King Arthur and His Knights is a large-scale theatre piece written by Niall McNeil, James Long, and Marcus Youssef, with original music by Veda Hille. Niall is an artist whose life experience includes Down Syndrome. This project continues to explore the successes and challenges engendered by our 2011 commission and co-production of Peter Panties at the Cultch PuSh Festival (winner of the Vancouver Critics Choice Innovation Award). Right now, we’re curious about the permeable boundary between the King Arthur story, associatively related pop culture icons, and Niall’s own personal stories, both of which he intuitively interchanges with the Arthur story. Of course the evil Mordred sometimes turns into Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Of course the sword-delivering Lady of the Lake’s misty underwater home is Harrison Hot Springs. Of course.
