The demonstration was organised by a broad coalition of pro-transparency, anti-surveillance and civil rights groups including the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Reporters Without Borders, Digital Courage, and Amnesty International. American Internet activist Jacob Appelbaum who some have termed the "most dangerous man in cyberspace" spoke at the rally. He criticised the status of mass surveillance and called for attendees to support Edward Snowden and whistle blowers everywhere.
