CAIR Thanks DC Public Library for ‘Swift and Appropriate’ Handling of Hijab Incident (WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/24/16) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today applauded the “swift and appropriate” actions by DC Public Library following an incident in which a Muslim woman was reportedly forced to leave a branch library because of her Islamic head scarf, or hijab. A witness said that she was standing near a Muslim woman in the library on Wednesday when a DC Public Library police officer threatened to handcuff the woman if she did not remove her hijab.
