When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, the Nursing Program at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus was also hit hard. Despite damage to the nursing classrooms and facilities, the program immediately carried on the tradition of providing a variety of nursing degrees, in part because of a cooperative agreement with Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport. Layla Essary tells us how the current nursing building expansion project underway at the Gulf Park campus will unite nursing students & staff for the first time in a decade on one campus.
