In Their Own Words: Documenting Violence Against Lesbian, Bisexual Women, and Transgender People in Asia "Lesbians, bisexual women, and transgender people are violated because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. The violence and discrimination they face is often invisible, unacknowledged, condoned or trivialized. Documenting and analyzing their violent experiences require that these experiences be understood in the context of diverse cultural, religious, and political contexts of what sometimes seems like not one, but many Asias." — Grace Poore, Regional Program Coordinator for Asia and Pacific Islands, IGLHRC In a three-year project, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission partnered with activists in five Asian countries to document and analyze violence against LBT people. Three of the researchers, Azusa (Japan), Jay (Sri Lanka) and Thilaga (Malaysia) presented preliminary findings of their research and discussed their experience working on the project at the 57th Commission on the Status of Women. The final regional report and individual country reports with analysis of violence and discrimination that LBT people face will be released in December 2013.
