Now in its fourth year, the company is owned and run by Shellie and Dave Mierwald (Shellie is the chef behind these incredible sauces). What sets Sweet Heat Gourmet apart is their passion for supporting local farmers and great seasonal produce… Shellie uses local ingredients in her sauces whenever possible, and every Sweet Heat Gourmet product label features the names of the farmers/growers who provided the ingredients for that sauce. Not only is this great in terms of supporting small businesses, but this commitment to using the best local, seasonal produce available shows in the quality of every Sweet Heat Gourmet sauce. This is a review of Sweet Heat Gourmet’s “Roasted Jalapeño” hot sauce... one of the mildest of the Sweet Heat Gourmet hot sauces, but what it lacks in heat, it more than makes up for in flavor! This hot sauce made my “Top 12 Fiery Foods of 2014” list, and it also received the 2014 “Lenny Award” from Al “Buddah” Goldenberg of http://www.iloveitspicy.com/ for “Best Green Sauce”! I’m a big fan of green/verde-style hot sauces, and this one, to me, is one of the best… the jalapeños and tomatillos are roasted to bring out their bold, savory flavors; apple cider vinegar provides just the right amount of sweetness and acidity. Honey, citrus juices, onions, and garlic round everything out in perfect balance. Whether you love spicy food or not (I would love to see this sauce offered in both “mild” and “hot” variations!), Sweet Heat Gourmet’s Roasted Jalapeño hot sauce is a “must-try”! My rating for flavor: 9 out of 10 My rating for heat: 1 out of 10 INGREDIENTS: Tomatillos, jalapeños, onions, apple cider vinegar, orange juice, honey, lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper. From the Sweet Heat Gourmet web site: “We roast the jalapenos with tomatillos, onions and garlic. This is a great everyday sauce. Not super hot and lots of flavor.” This sauce is made with ingredients from Mothersbaugh Farm (http://agmap.psu.edu/Businesses/index.cfm?fid=787) of Spring Mills, Pennsylvania PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, COMMENT, AND SHARE THIS VIDEO Follow me on Twitter: @ZinThePhoenix Got a hot sauce or other spicy product that you would like to see me review?
