ABOUT MISS UNIVERSITY AFRICA PAGEANT Established in 2009, The Miss University Africa pageant is aimed at Celebrating Beauties with Brain, discourage indecent dressing amongst African Students/youths, discover the innate potentials of African students, celebrate African culture/Tourism, Celebrate the African woman, African personalities, promote investment and reach out to the less privileged through the Miss University Africa Foundation. Miss University Africa is the only pageant on the continent comprising 54 African Nations despite their religious beliefs and language barrier. It also has a large international viewing audience with coverage in the UK, USA and across Africa, with very positive and encouraging comments from leaders on the continent some of which include Her Excellency Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf President Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. Yahya Jammeh, The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Ntsu Mokhehle, President Republic of the Gambia, Her Excellency, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan First lady Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hajia Turai Ya' adua Former First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Mrs. Janet Museveni First Lady Republic of Uganda, Distinguished Senator David Mark, President of the Nigerian Senate, Hon. Demji Bankole, Former Speaker House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria Ministers of governments in Africa and Some Nigerian Governors. The winner of this pageant becomes the official International Queen for Africa and a United Nations Students Ambassador. SOME PAST ACHIEVEMENTS 1. The First ever international non bikini pageant in the world. 2. Advocacy for a law protecting the rights of physically challenged persons in Nigeria. (this law has passed its second reading on the floor of the Nigerian senate, chaired by Senate president David Mark) 3. Distribution of food items and clothing to war victims in Liberia 4. Payment of medical bills and distribution of food items to the patients at the National hospital in Lome, Togo. 5. Construction of a school for handicapped children at the cost of N10, 000, 000 (Ten Million naira only) in Yenagoa Bayelsa state. Sponsored by the First bank of Nigeria and other international organizations. 6. Distribution of 500 wheel chairs and guide canes to physically challenged persons in Abuja, Nigeria sponsored by the Central Bank of Nigeria. 7. Advocacy for decent dressing on 50 university campuses in Africa with very impressive results. 8. Free surgical operation by doctors from USA and Europe to the people of Bayelsa state. 9. Free Breast and cervical cancer screening to women in Bayelsa and Benue states in partnership with the First ladies of those states. 10. Renovation of Gidan Bige orphanage in Benue state, Nigeria. 11. Donation of medical equipments and payment of Medical bills for kerosene burnt victims at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa. 12. Medical assistance to cancer patients at the National Cancer Center in Kampala, Uganda. 13. Ongoing plans for the construction of an orphanage in Benue State to house 600 children. This orphanage will be built at no cost to the government and people of Benue State and handed over to the First Lady of Benue to manage. 14. International support for establishment of a cancer center in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. This centre owned by former First lady of Bayelsa state.
