Description

Here we have a syncopated story of Sticking Up For Children from its start in March 2013 to the present, October 2014. Cyril and Gaynielle Neville brought the "great idea", evolved by Cyril and his bandmates in the Royal Southern Brotherhood band, to Maryse Dejean and Don Paul. The idea: that drumsticks can be recycled into art-work, instead of being thrown away, and then sold to benefit young people in need, Yes indeed! Musicians supporting Sticking Up For Children include Jimmy Cliff, Dr. John, Pretty Lights aka Derek Vincent Smith, Sandra Nkake, Hamid Drake, Stanton Moore, Alex de Grassi, Jonathan Richman, and dozens more. Hundreds of children and parents have participated in Music & Arts Days, accompanied by some the world's greatest hand-drummers. Sales of Drumsticks-as-Art have benefited two Beneficiaries in Haiti and three in New Orleans. You can check out Supporters, Benefactors, Beneficiaries, Beautiful Drumsticks, and monthly News at stickingupforchildren.com The video, edited by our wonderful Aristide Phillips of New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward, tells Sticking Up For Children's story through its first year-and-a-half. SUFC has learned to walk. It's beginning to run! The video features music from several of our friends--the Willerm Delisfort Group, Sandra Nkake, Pretty Lights, Cyril and Gaynielle Neville, and the Stanton Moore Trio.
