Description

Chico Rocks Live strolled down to the Thursday Night Market on May 16th with our surround sound mic and HD cam to see what tasty treats we can find at the Thursday Night Market. Just as we were about to head home around 8pm we found these precious gems playing live as the sun was setting at Johnnies at the Hotel Diamond. I was just dropping in for a few minutes and ended up staying for their whole 90 minute set. I just could not tear myself away from this awesome performance during a beautiful magical sunset in downtown Chico. We got very lucky upon our impromptu arrival at Johnnies and secured the booth in the front row right next to the stage! Our seats were so close to the band that I could not get everybody in the frame, but man did it sound great! What a beautiful magical evening at the Thursday Night Market watching the sunset and the night gently fall in the background of these guys awesome 90 minute set at Johnnies! This is what happens when our very talented local rock stars put together a Bluegrass band! Phenomenal Musicianship! The individual musicians that make up Low Flying Birds have a very diverse musical background, having played live in many ultra talented Chico bands over the years from Rock, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues, Acid Rock, Progressive Rock, R&B, Groove, Jam, Gypsy, Hippie Jam Dance Bands, Slamgrass, Classical and more. They can play any genre of music they choose pretty much and have the talent and experience to make magic happen on the dance floor where ever and what ever they play. I have had the pleasure of growing up dancing to and listening to three of these local boys playing many live performances in many different Chico bands, fueling my passion for the healing powers of dance and live music and our local celebration of life in Chico for the past 20 years and I LOVE dancing to their live performances always! The individual members of Low Flying Birds are made up of Sid Lewis on banjo and lead vocals, Doug Stein on baritone lead vocals and guitar, Johnny Lombardo on stand up bass and back up vocals, and the new kid on mandolin, Clint Woodbeck, who can more than hold his own. I really enjoyed the sweet sounds of his mandolin while I was seated so close to the stage in that intimate setting. What a fantastic live performance in downtown Chico! Plenty of dancers enjoying their music too! They are going to be playing every other Thursday Night at Johnnies during the Thursday Night Market season in downtown Chico. The show is free but tips for the band is much appreciated! These boys put on a great show and they just naturally spread tons of happiness and joyful healing through their upbeat lively happy music that you can't sit still too! Even if you don't dance, these guys will have you dancing happily in your seat while you enjoy a refreshing drink in your booth! You have to go see these guys play live! Low Flying Birds are made up of some of Chico's finest and most diverse musicians that we are truely blessed to have entertaining us in our beautiful musical community in Chico, California. It's perfect evenings like this is why I can't seem to ever leave Chico.
