Description

I’m Sgt. Stephanie J. Shannon I’m an inspirational speaker, a veteran advocate and the author of “Battling the Storm Within” a deeply personal memoir that details my 20 year journey of living undiagnosed with PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by MST, Military Sexual Trauma and GWI, the Gulf War Illness. The Gulf War Illness (GWI) is a chronic multi-symptomatic disorder affecting returning military veterans and civilian workers of the Gulf War since August 2, 1990. There is a wide range of acute and chronic symptoms have been linked to it, the Gulf War Veterans’ Medically Unexplained Illnesses is a prominent condition affecting Gulf War Veterans that has a cluster of medically unexplained chronic symptoms that can include fatigue, headaches, joint pain, muscle pain, cognitive problems, rashes, digestive problems, indigestion, insomnia, dizziness, respiratory disorders, and memory problems. The VA refers to these illnesses as "chronic multi-symptom illness" and "undiagnosed illnesses." The VA prefers not to use the term “Gulf War Syndrome” when referring to medically unexplained symptoms reported by Gulf War Veterans. If you or someone you know that may have served in the Gulf War starting from the Desert Storm War from 1990 to present contact closest the VA hospital nearest you. You can also find out a wealth of information, research, studies and treatments available @www.publichealth.va.gov/PUBLICHEALTH/exposures/gulfwar/index.asp I’m Sgt. Stephanie J. Shannon a survivor and overcomer of GWI and my mission and purpose to empower people who have experienced multiple traumas in life to become healed, be restored and live again.
