Hi, I bought this kit on Amazon and it was a lot of fun to make. I do think you should put in a 100mw or higher green laser since they are so cheap now, but only if you want to send your message ten or more km. I use the communicator to send messages into space. Why? To send greetings to other species and to send my thoughts across the universe. This kind of message stays together much father than a regular radio waves would. Radio is old tech and spreads in all directions, but laser is new tech when it comes to using it to communicate with. Better chance to get a response back, if that is possible. DARPA this year announced that they were working on a laser communicator, but this is a great way to get a hi tech device for low cost.
