Misdemeanor for Murder? The Kona and Bill Story, Portland, OR

5h ago
SOURCE

Description

Kona the beautiful Great Dane and Lab mixed dog was stolen and murdered on April 7, 2016. The police returned the dog as property to Bill his human friend, without investigating how Kona died. They told the media the leash was wrapped around the gear shift and Kona's neck. The first witness said Kona looked strangled. A necropsy was not ordered until Kona had been buried 2 weeks, 3 weeks after his death. While social media found the killer, Oregon dropped the felony charge and the murderer is being charged with a misdemeanor for the death of Kona if this case even goes to trial. Oregon like every other state considers animals as property. Although, we have had 3 tiny steps forward in Oregon Supreme Court recent rulings, pets are still property; unless they are shot or stabbed, they don't warrant a felony when murdered. Even when the felony aggravated animal abuse is a charge, the convicted gets 30 days, such as in the Earl the puppy beating in Eugene. Our beloved family members deserve more than this. Please help #justiceforKona His caretaker and best buddy Bill wants better laws to protect our beloved animal companions when they become the victim of a crime. The June 27th trial date was cancelled. Next pending call date is July 19th.
