Description

Join MARTA employees Jason Ward and Denise Whitfield as they take us on a quick tour of two MARTA rail stations and the interesting neighborhoods they serve! First, Jason walks us around King Memorial and explains how the entire neighborhood is going through a renaissance of new housing and commercial activity. We'll see where MARTA will be developing new apartments on the south side of the station where MARTA's old surface parking lot is now. The Oakland Cemetery will also benefit from the TOD plans when their visitor center will relocate to the new development and improve the visitor experience at the historic, and popular!, garden cemetery. Next, Denise Whitfield meets us on the platform of Georgia State's MARTA Station and gives us a 360-degree tour of the "urban core" that makes up this bustling area next to downtown Atlanta. Denise will show the diverse base of MARTA riders: ranging from GSU students, to Grady Hospital workers and patients, to Georgia's Capitol workers in the "Gold Dome", and the hundreds of government employees inside the Floyd Government Building. We hope you enjoy the tour, and learn something new about the area.
