Russia criticizes Kazakhstan after a local magazine published a cover showing Hitler and an article comparing Hitler to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Full Story: Russia criticized Kazakhstan on Monday (April 21) after a local magazine published a cover showing Hitler and an article comparing Hitler to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Anyz Adam magazine devoted its entire April issue to Hitler and his legacy. Each month the magazine profiles a famous person who has changed the course of history, and previous issues featured profiles of such controversial figures as the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan and Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the publication of the Hitler profile ahead of next month's anniversary of the defeat of Germany in World War II - which is celebrated as Victory Day on May 9 with much pomp in Russia and across the former Soviet Union - dismissing at as "inappropriate." The publication also attracted attention from Kazakh WWII veterans, who gathered in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Monday to protest the magazine's decision to dedicate its latest issue to Hitler. Scuffles broke out at a protest after veterans and other servicemen tried to burn a copy of the magazine containing an appreciative profile of Adolf Hitler. At least one employee of the magazine stood up for the publication at the protest, saying it had done nothing wrong in its coverage.
