Description

Emotions ran rampant outside the Carl D. Perkins Federal Building in Ashland as protesters gathered against the decision to send Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis to jail after she refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Religiously charged sermons about sin and repentance filled the air while placards with slogans such as "Repent" and "Turn to Jesus or Burn" and dozens of Bibles colored the protest. A small group of counter-protesters took to the streets to call for marriage equality and gay rights and could be heard chanted phrases such as "love is not sin."
