Description

And in this corner...weighing in at 128 pounds and 18 feet 8 inches long is... the longest snake ever found in the wild in Florida, Bernie the Burmese Python! While Bernie is just a name dubbed by an earlier reporter following this story, the man who captured Bernie is Jason Leon--or was it Bernie who captured Jason? As the story goes, mild mannered Jason was driving down the road when he notices a rather large snake in the grass. And having raised Burmese pythons in the past, Jason quickly pulled over his car and approached the very large snake demanding attention. But as Jason got closer to the Python, the Python didn't act like a pet snake. Instead, the giant Burmese Python did what Pythons are known to do: He began to wrap himself around Jason, starting a wrestling match, ending up with Jason pulling out of knife and dispatching Bernie to snake heaven—or perhaps the other place. While Bernie is no longer available for questioning, if he could talk he might have told us that he was a discarded pet since thousands of tropical pets are released into the wild in Florida each year. You know, the usual friendly creatures such as piranha, alligators and snakes of all sorts of sizes and stripes. So be careful, for the small pet you release today may become your wrestling partner tomorrow.
