Description
Hi, I'm Anthony Gates; concierge at Hotel Allegro -- a Kimpton hotel, and this week's concierge correspondent. I have your Concierge Preferred Picks for the week of June 18th through June 24th "Lights, Camera, Architecture!" --Chicago Architecture Foundation 224 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL www.architecture.org Tour sites of Chicago that have made Chicago a great place to film a movie. Chicago Architecture Foundation's "Lights, Camera, Architecture!" tour walks you through film locations from films such as the Blues Brothers, Batman, and the Untouchables. See how they use Chicago's architecture as a backdrop for these classic films. This downtown walking tour will stop at such film sites like Marina City for "The Blues Brothers"; The Chicago Theater for "Batman" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Tours depart on scheduled Saturdays at 10am from 401 North Michigan Avenue, in front of the Jack Brickhouse statue. Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph St., Chicago, IL www.broadwayinchicago.com Known to change the face of Rock and Roll forever, Buddy Holly was a legendary singer and songwriter in the late 1950s before his tragic death. This production, "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story", tells his life story as a 19-year old teenager from Texas - - on the rise to fame, including hits like "That'll Be the Day", "Peggy Sue", and " La Bamba". See it now through June 30 at the historic Cadillac Palace Theatre. For tickets contact your concierge or go to BroadwayinChicago.com. The Tortoise Club 350 N. State St., Chicago, IL www.tortoiseclub.com Treat yourself to the Tortoise Club, with fresh American fare in a classic clubhouse setting. Expect a sophisticated, 140 person seated space with Mahogany millwork from the old Pump Room that compliments the old Chicago vibe. Chef Gray McNally presents a classic menu with some creative twists. For example, I like the lobster roll and the Tortoise pork chop. Stop in after the show to this new Chicago classic. The patio is open too! The Tortoise Club is located at 350 North State Street within Marina City. Have your concierge make a reservation. For more information on these events, check out conciergepreferred.com or pick up the magazine at any concierge desk in the city. Check out conciergepreferred.com every Wednesday for the week's Concierge Picks.
