Open Letter To Vogue

Description

Last month, Vogue Italia published an editorial featuring white models modeling in a "tribal" shoot. In my opinion, this is troubling in that not only does this enforce stereotypical representations of (what I interpret to be) "African culture" (given the head wraps the model wears and the taxidermic animals they pose with), but once again enforces the age old trope of the "exotic other". It's time to hold high fashion magazines (and media) accountable when they decide to represent cultures in such a way. This is not the first time Vogue has allowed such offensive material to be published. This is my open letter to Vogue. If you wish to represent a culture, do so in a way that accurately represents it, not in a way that fulfills your preconceived beliefs about it.
